Areas we cover

The British Embassy Phnom Penh is responsible for the bilateral relationship between the United Kingdom and the Kingdom of Cambodia across a variety of different fields – political, economic, cultural and commercial.

The British Embassy works closely with the Department for International Development (DFID) Cambodia office to implement the British government development programme.

The Embassy is also responsible for the provision of a range of consular services to British citizens living in or visiting the Kingdom of Cambodia. In collaboration with the British Embassy in Bangkok we provide visa services to Cambodian and other visa nationals living in the Kingdom of Cambodia who wish to visit the United Kingdom.

The Embassy also serves as a source of general information about the United Kingdom for both the Cambodian media and general public.

Through the Chevening Scholarships scheme, the Embassy provides opportunities for selected Cambodian students to study in the United Kingdom on a Masters, PhD and other programmes.

Using the Bilateral Programme Fund and other programme budgets the Embassy provides support to projects across a wide range of activities such as human rights, legal and judicial reform, and assistance to vulnerable groups. We work in partnership with NGOs and other agencies to deliver these projects.

The British Ambassador is appointed by Her Majesty the Queen and has overall responsibility for the representation of British Government policy in the Kingdom of Cambodia. Around 14 staff work in the various sections of the Embassy, with another 30 providing essential support services. The majority of the staff working in the Embassy are locally engaged Cambodian employees.
