How to register a death
You can register the death at the British Embassy, Phnom Penh. Consular death registration is not a legal requirement but there are some benefits:
- An entry will be made in the death registry at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in London
- You will be provided with a British style death certificate
- A record of the death will be held by the General Register Office in the UK.
You will need to register the death with the foreign civil authorities and obtain a full foreign death certificate before you can apply for consular death registration. The consular death certificate will not include a cause of death as many foreign death certificates do not include this detail. You can apply for a consular death certificate from the British Embassy Phnom Penh.
The fee for this service is £105.50. This includes a certified copy of the death registration entry. Should you require additional copies these can be obtained at a cost of £41.00 per certificate.
We will need to see evidence of the nationality of the person whose death is to be registered. You will need to submit original documents along with two sets of photocopies.
Registration takes approximately six weeks from receipt of a completed application form.
